Petridish United FC

The club was formed in 1926, The club started as a replacement for Peterbonkers & Fart FC, hence the nickname The Plops.

After a period of growth and regeneration, winning the Amoeba League 9 times, The Plops joined the Football league in 1960 and immediately won Division Four, and remained in Division Three for seven seasons until financial implosion.

The club was helped to survive by sponsorship from golfing holiday company Timothy Crook, who capitalised on the local enthusiasm to get the hell out of Dodge. Holidays away from the area became so popular that Timothy Crook opened their world headquarters in the town, although employees have to wear silly golf trousers.

The nineties were more successful , after Barry Flybynite joined after 3 years at sleeping midgets Barmingers Slightly, and promotion to the second tier was achieved.

Several relegations and promotions followed, with managerial merry-go-rounds over the millennium involving Emperor of Football Barry Flybynite and Duncle Fungusson, son of former Manglaser United manager Duke Alec Fungusson. (Duncle and dad Alec hold a unique record, being the only Father and Son managers who have had their arses well and truly kicked at the Roots Hall of Gods).

The new century has seen The Plops promoted and relegated from the second tier, Duncle returning to oversee the latest demotion and then get the boot.

Stadium – The Plops have played since their conception at Lumpit Road Stadium, but in 2014 clenched a sponsorship deal with Swedish silicon chip implant company APOX and Japanese herpes researchers Onyu, leading to a renaming of the ground to the APOX ONYU Arena.

2019-20 and the renamed Western Homes Stadium will be hosting the Plops for a ten year deal!

2023 and Lord Admiral of Football Barry Flybynite found a soulmate for the Re-Re-Return of Duncle Fungusson who will hopefully push The Plops back up and re-re-enter the area that they belong.
