- FishWood Town
Fishwood Town have have several incarnations over the last 100 years.
Fishwood Wanderlings were originally formed in 1908, joining the Blackpool Beach Football League. Only 5 years later, they won the Playtex Combination, and only missed a League and Cup double by losing 6-5 to bitter rivals Roller Coaster Rovers, with whom they would continue to have an up-and-down relationship.
Moving to HighHopes Stadium in 1929 helped Fishwood to survive until an ill wind blew in 1975. The Inland Revenue could smell something fishy and applied to have Fishwood put into codministration. After a High Court herring, the club had to skate into the sunset.
A new club was formed in 1996, and applied to join the North North West CountYourselfLucky League as Fishwood Gasletic. 20 Minutes after their application was successful, the club was renamed Fishwood BOGOF due to a five year sponsorship deal with the 98p Shop.
In 2001, the newly named Fishwood Town gained promotion, bankrolled by pile cream queen Emma Roids and her company Suppositories-R-Up.
A gradual climb through the leagues continued, until promotion to the Football League was clinched after a run of 107 games unbeaten, a record which smells a bit fishy and led to an inquiry by the Blue Fin Codference executive.
Opposition players often complained about slippery floors in the away changing room at HighHopes Stadium, and fish eyes floating in the bath. After an investigation, the club were cleared of any wrongdoing by chief investigator Captain Birdseye, who declared that it was unfair of rivals to keep carping on about it, and that Fishwood could keep their plaice in League Two.
In 2014, Fishwood finished in 4th plaice in League Two, beat York Codfish in the semi-final playoff, then defeated Browntrout Albion in the final to reach League One for the first time. A good season saw Fishwood finish in tench position.
2023-24 and Fishwood slipped back to League Two, 2026-27 sees them perched for glory
