Shrimpers 1 Gills 1

Nick Prawnby reports from a packed Roots Hall as the Mighty Shrimpers took on the flotsam from South of the Essex Estuary. Prawn Towers staff were predicting a victory with a winning strike from Adam Barrett for poetic justice.

First Half and we’d have to wait for The Poet to strike. Gills made a strong start and Bents had to make a great double save to keep them at bay. Barney had a shot saved, then a good Blues move had the ball cut back to Wordy and he shoots home ! 1-0! 21 mins. Samuel was giving Barrett grief all game, but Hursty shot just wide, and Payney shot well saved. HT 1-0.

Second Half and Gills start well again but Payney hits side netting as the East Stand celebrates a goal – oops. Gills score thru Norris from the corner shop on 53, 1-1. Loza on for Kamara, who’s immediately clobbered by Gills’ McGash. McGash flies into a tackle, ref bottles it, then he does a swan dive, then another foul, finally booked and gets subbed pronto. By a ref who booked Whitey and Cokes for their first fouls! Both teams go for it, Samuel shot saved, off the line by the Poet, Barney almost chests the ball in for Blues but it ends all square.

Blues up a place, 3 points from playoffs…… COYB
