Brentfudd
Saved from extinction by SUFC ex-hero manager Dave “Wodge” Webb in the nineties, Brentfudd were in a sad state of affairs, whose illustrious history singled them out as; “The most successful club what can be seen from the elevated section of the M4 although no-one knows whose ground it is even when told”.
Gonad Park, with a pub on each corner, was a homely if ramshackle stadium, and being on the flight path for Heathrow Airport, pioneered roof advertising which could be seen from the air.
This caused much controversy in 1975 when an advert by local funeral directors Allan, Armpit, Rogers, Grunt and Holler had twenty foot high letters proclaiming “AARGH you’re all going to die!”
Nicknamed the “B’s” Because most of the players were without known parents, errr… fathers displaced if you know what I mean, sort of “Daddies away working”, illegitimate kind of thing, well, …..
Most successful in the 1920’s, when local sailor Seaman Staines bankrolled the club like old Limp-noades tried, the B’s have been less than fortunate before 2013 with only a few see-saw promotions and relegations to show for it.
Manager Uve Russernegger almost achieved promotion to the Championship in 2013, when in the very last minute of the very last game of the season, he substited the normal penalty taker with goalkeeper Marcello Russernegger, whose powerful penalty cannoned off the bar and rebounded into his own net. Stripe me!
Promotion to the Championship was finally achieved in 2014, and unbelievably reached the Premier League in 2021 – in a new stadium!
Still hanging on for 2026-27 after several good seasons !
